We are seeking a Meteorological Applications Developer to support product development activities for the EarthSat Weather Services Division. The position is responsible for developing value-added weather products from a multitude of meteorological data sources. This position requires a highly-motivated individual who can work in a fast-paced, real-time, client-driven environment.
Essential Job Functions
- Write code to facilitate new product development
- Maintain and improve existing code
- Compile historical datasets and implement real-time data feeds for clients
- Work with large datasets including meteorological station reports (METAR, SYNOP), National Weather Service text products, radar, satellite, and grid model data
- Contribute creative solutions to enhance value and improve efficiency in products
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in C, Perl and shell scripting languages
- Experience programming on a UNIX/Linux platform
- B.S. in physical science (preferably meteorology) with supplemental coursework or comparable professional experience in computer science
- Ability to ingest, process, and disseminate various meteorological datasets
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet client-driven deadlines
- Ability to function independently and work effectively in a small-team environment
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- U.S. Citizenship is required
- Eligibility for Security Clearance is required
Desired Qualifications
- Database/SQL experience
- Experience programming in Fortran, PHP, HTML or JavaScript languages
- Ability to perform statistical analyses
- Experience creating forecast model graphics with GrADS
